Upgrade to 2007 first or setup clustering first.

Post by usenet » Fri Jul 03, 2009 5:55 pm

We currently have two exchange 2003 servers, 1 backend, 1 front end…. I need
to setup clustering for high availability.

Question: should I upgrade to 2007 first and then setup clustering or setup
clustering first and upgrade the nodes in the cluster?

Note: Currently exchange is running on windows standard which means I would
have to setup new servers anyway to have clustering.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have to install the O/S and have clustering already configured
before you can install Exchange 2007

If i am not wrong then whenever you want to upgrade your environment from
2003 to 2007 then you have to uninstall the cluster first.

So, now the second one you are using Standard edition so you first need to
upgrade that one to another server .Then install 2007 on that server &
transfer the mailboxes & public folders to that new server.

& as per your requirement that you want to make it clustered then simply
select this is an clustered server at the time of Exchange server 2007
installation.

Thanks. Ajit D.
